The defence establishment has focused particular attention on Kaludewala village in Matale after the arrest of several leading LTTE cadres from Ratwatta and Kaludewala areas.
SSP Matale McCarthy Perera said Kaludewala has been identified as the hideout of terrorists from Kilinochchi. He said a police post was established in the area recently on the instructions of DIG Central province (West) Pujitha Jayasundera to arrest the suspicious persons.
Meanwhile a massive search operation covering more than 700 families is underway to identify the strangers. Inquiries revealed that Kaludewala has been the hub of terrorist activities in the area and a centre of the LTTE in the upcountry estates. The SSP added that Kaludewala is the hiding place of prominent LTTE cadres planning for terrorist activities. He pointed out that the people who fled to Kilinochchi during 1983 riots have returned to Kaludewala and that they are having connections with the LTTE in Kilinochchi.
